When to Travel

The dry season in Kenya, which runs from July to September and coincides with the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra, is one of the best times to visit.

Rainy seasons can also be good times to visit because there are fewer tourists and you can appreciate the beautiful, emerald foliage. December is a brilliant month to visit Kenya because the rains are brief and you can see newborn animals and migratory bird species. Only the ‘long rains’ in March, April, and May are particularly rainy.

Visa

To enter Kenya, you’ll need a passport with at least two blank pages, six months’ validity, and a visa. Online applications for single-entry visas are eligible. Prior to traveling to Kenya, multiple-entry visas must be applied for. Job permit applications should be submitted 6-8 weeks prior to departure.

Ugandans, Rwandans, and Kenyans can freely travel between their countries using their national identification cards. Holders of diplomatic or service category passports from Brazil, China, Cuba, Israel, Iran, and Turkey, as well as holders of diplomatic passports from India, do not need a visa.

Kenya implemented an e-Visa scheme on July 2, 2015. This allows visitors to stay for up to 90 days with an e-visa if they apply at least seven days ahead of time.
