Ethiopia

The highlands and the Rift Valley regions of the country are famed for their wildlife reserves. The awe inspiring Simien Mountain National park is home to the endemic Gelada baboon, Walia Ibex, and Ethiopian Wolf. In the park, Klipspringer, Vervet monkey, Klipspringer, Spotted hyena, Leopard, Serbal, and more can be spotted. Bale Mountains National Park is also popular for its rich fauna and flora.

A variety of endangered Ethiopian endemic species depend on the Bale Mountains for survival. Over half of the population of Ethiopian Wolves, the world’s rarest canid, lives in the Afroalpine region, while the northern juniper-Hagenia woodlands are home to the world’s largest population of the endemic and similarly endangered Mountain Nyala. Rock hyrax, Starck’s Hare, Bale Monkey, Rodent Community, Menelik’s Bushbuck, and Giant Molerat are also other mammals found in the Bale Mountain National Park that can’t be seen anywhere else on earth.

The Senkele Game Reserve’s Swayne’s Hartebeests, Caracals, Spotted Hyenas, Bohor, Reedbucks, Greater Kudus, Orbis Antelopes, Civet Cats, Warthogs, and Common Jackals can also be spotted on our tours to the Ethiopian Rift Valley and Awash National Park.

Kenya

Kenya is one of the best safari destinations on the planet and has a staggering amount of wildlife with over 25,000 different animal species. During the annual wildebeest migration, the plains of the Maasai Mara darken, with predators on the prowl. The reserve is home to many cheetahs, but the Lion Kingdom reigns supreme, with large prides holding court. Spotted hyenas, jackals, and bat-eared foxes are among other carnivores found here.

Large grazing herds of zebra, giraffe, buffalo, gazelle, and topi can be found in the Mara. Antelope species include hartebeest, waterbuck, dik-dik, duiker, klipspringer, oribi, and the rare roan. Crocodile and hippo populations abound in the Mara and Talek rivers, and the acacia woodlands are home to 470 of Kenya’s 1100 bird species.

Amboseli National Park, famous for its elephants, also has some endangered rhinos, which are frequently seen at Lewa Conservancy, a project dedicated to their recovery. Visitors to Samburu can see leopards as well as two endemic species found only in northern Kenya: Grevy’s zebras and reticulated giraffes.

Djibouti

Djibouti protects several antelope species, including Soemmerring’s gazelle and Pelzeln’s gazelle, Grevy’s zebra, hamadryas baboon, and Hunter’s antelope. Warthogs can also be found in the Day National Park.

The coastal waters are home to dugongs and Abyssinian genet. Green turtles and hawksbill turtles can be found in coastal waters where nesting occurs. In Djibouti, the Northeast African cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii is thought to be extinct. However, there are refugees in areas where cheetahs breed.

Dorcas Tragus megalotis, an endemic and vulnerable antelope, has been reported in Djibouti’s southern mountain range of Aser-Jog. A total of 99 different varieties have been recorded.
