Day 3: Journey to Meroe Pyramids

Today, we leave the capital and journey to the world’s largest collection of ancient Pyramids, Meroe pyramids, are one of the remaining symbols from an ancient civilization of Africa.  When we are thinking about the pyramids, our minds immediately go to Egypt. But, the Meroe pyramids, which host more pyramids in a small stretch of the desert are more than all of Egypt. They are around 200 km north of the capital city of Khartoum, representing the final resting place for the last dynasty of royal Black Pharaohs in the ancient Kushite (capital city of Meroe).

Overnight camping near Meroe Pyramids.

Day 4: Exploring Meroe

Meroe is the ancient Kush, the ruins of which are located on the east bank of the Nile about 6.4 km north of Kabushiyah in present-day Sudan; Meroe is also the name of the area surrounding the city.

Overnight camping near Meroe Pyramids.

Day 5: Travel to Karima

Crossing by a ferry boat, we head north crossing the Nile. This is the gateway to the Bayuda Desert. It is very likely we will encounter isolated groups of Bisharin nomads, who live in familiar groups in small huts made of intertwined branches close to the rare water wells. Finally, we will reach the Nubian Rest house for our leisure afternoon.

Day 6: Visiting El Kurru and Jebel Barkal

We start our day visiting Jebel Barkal archaeological sites which are listed on the World Heritage list. Temples and Pyramids from the Royal necropolis of the ancient city of Napata are included in the visit. Then, we will proceed to the village of El Kurru where we visit two tombs, which are decorated with images of the Pharaoh.
