Eritrea is located in East Africa. This nation is bordered to the northeast and east by the Red Sea, Sudan to the west, Ethiopia to the south, and Djibouti to the southeast. Eritrea lies between latitudes 12° and 18°N, and longitudes 36° and 44°E.

The climate in Eritrea is hot, dry desert strip along the Red Sea coast; cooler and wetter in the central highlands (up to 610mm of rainfall annually); semiarid in western hills and lowlands; rainfall heaviest during June-September except in the coastal desert. In Eritrea, the temperature differs depending on the area of the country. Massawa, for example, is a tropical beach area with a very humid and hot atmosphere.On the other hand, Asmara and nearby towns have highs around 32 °C and lows of 21°C.
When to Travel
The best time depends on where you go. One can travel to Eritrea at almost any time of the year. The high season is October through March. Whereas April and September are the shoulder seasons in the country. May through August, the hottest season, is the low season with less crowds.
