Djibouti

Arta, on Djibouti’s eastern coast is home to some lovely beaches. Douda is a large and relaxing beach that is ideal for all ages and offers spectacular sunrise views. The water is shallow and calm and the area has a playground, making it a popular location for families. A mangrove forest can be found nearby, which is fun to explore.

Arta Beach is breathtaking.  Both sandy and rugged, it has bright blue water and spectacular scenery. It’s calm, isolated waters are great for snorkeling, with colorful fish and sea turtles. You can also take a cruise here to spot magnificent whale sharks.

Goubet Beach is on the western shore of Lake Ghoubet. This peaceful beach, which is both sandy and rocky, is the ideal place to unwind after a long day. The lake water is ideal for fishing; barracuda and tuna are both possible catches. Although it is never crowded or busy, facilities are fairly limited here.

Khor Ambado is a remote, peaceful beach with great snorkelling, that can only be reached by private car. Several small local houses built of wood logs with fabric roofs can be found along the shore.

Kenya

Diani Beach is Kenya’s most popular beach as it is easily accessible from Mombasa.  It offers a diverse range of amenities and infrastructure. A beautiful coral reef can be found just off the coast, with plenty of shade offered by palm groves and underwater sandbars. Diani Beach has it all, whether you want to swim, snorkel, or surf. There are extensive facilities here, with great bars and restaurants in the city and well as beachfront resorts.

Watamu is a quaint place on Kenya’s coast that is popular for its pristine white sand. This is a perfect location for scuba diving or snorkeling as it is part of the Watamu National Marine Park. Coral reefs are home to a wide variety of vibrant aquatic life, as well as providing breaks for surfers. When the ocean is out, you can walk for miles in the shallow water. Even a brief excursion can be a memorable experience. Watamu has a variety of excellent hotels and restaurants located just steps from the beach.

The island of Lamu is located just outside Kenya’s north shore. Donkeys are the most common mode of transportation in this destination, which is totally pedestrian friendly! A dhow boat will take you to some of the island’s many beaches, and dhow tours are a big part of the local economy. A good place to head for is Shela Beach on Lamu’s northern outskirts. The coastline is made up of shells and sand and it is only a short walk from Lamu city. Locals sell homemade samosas right on the beach, which are widely regarded as the best food in the area.

Eritrea

Ebaluwa’s Dahlak Kebir beach is situated in the Red Sea.  Close to the Marine National Park, home to about 325 various species of fish, it is renowned for excellent snorkelling and diving.  There are a number of beautiful remote islands which make up the Dahlak Archipelago.

Dissei Beach is on the eastern coast of tiny Dissei Island. This secluded beach is ideal for relaxing, with warm, dark sand and calm waters. The view from the beach is spectacular, particularly at sunrise. The fastest way to get to the island is by speed boat, which takes around an hour and a half.

Madote Island is a tropical island paradise off Dissei Beach. Soft white sand and turquoise waters make this an ideal place to unwind and disconnect.  The crystal clear waters and diverse marine life create unforgettable snorkelling and scuba diving experiences.
